Return to Uedem

In 1979, 40 years after we fled Germany, my father said that he wanted to see Uedem his home, again. My father, my mother and I went back to Uedem. He was thrilled to find many of his old friends in Uedem and he had a wonderful time.

I visited Germany four times with my wife primarily to visit her parents who lived in Frankfurt. While there, twice we visited Dubi in the Czech Republic. Once I went to Uedem with my wife and second I went to Uedem with my parents.

In 1948 my father received an invitation from the German Government to return to Uedem. They offered to loan him money to start his business as a cattle dealer again, but my mother refused to go back. She said: „How can I got home and ask for my missing parents and nobody knows anything, Albert, Irma and Nanne are gone and nobody knows anything.” She came from a very large family, many aunts, uncles and cousins and thy all disappeared. My father wanted very much to go back, but he would not go alone.
