Arrival of my parents

In 1957 I sponsored my parents and my brother. My parents Julius and Erna aswell as my brother Wolfgang moved to Chicago in February 1958.

In 1955 while still in Colombia they applied to the German Government and received their German citizenship which had been taken away from us under the Nuremberg Laws in 1935. My brother also received German citizenship. I did not get it, because I was already in the USA.

The USA is a country that throughout its history has been a country of immigrants and they are very open and helpful to new immigrants.

Again in USA my parents had to learn a new language (English) and due to his language limitations the only work my father Julius could do was work as a janitor in a factory. He did this type of work until he was 72 years old when he retired. My mother Erna went to a hairdresser school where she learned that trade and worked in beauty saloons until she was 65 years old when she retired.
