Herbert Oster

Soldier in the U.S. Army

I lived in Colombia until February 1953, when I received permission to emigrate to the USA. My aunt Herta, living in Chicago, sponsored me.

Two month after arriving in the USA I volunteered for military service and enlisted in the Air Force, where I served two years in the USA and 2 years in Europe where I was stationed in Chaumont sur Marne, France.

I went to Germany twice in 1955 and 1956 with the Air force football team from my base and we played against American military teams in Frankfurt and Munich. At that time I still saw a lot of reconstruction taking place in Germany.

After I completed my military service in 1957 I went to work in a factory and began a 5 year apprenticeship to become a tool & die maker. I worked in the trade until I retired when I was 62 years old.
