In a letter from the Gestapo Düsseldorf of the 18th of September 1941, which reaches Goch of the 1rst of October 1941, it is stated that families of soldiers need accommodations in Goch. One of the consequences is that jewish families have to leave their accommodation and live in "communal appartements".

(...) First of all jewish flats and houses have to be used then has been done, by moving more then one jewish family in one flat. Of course it is absolutly clear that the unhealthiest and worst flats are used, not forgetting that sanitary regulations have to be observed an the the jewish flats are not to close together (Ghettoisierungsverbot).

Communal appartements in Goch where in:
  • Weezerstraße 29
  • Herzogenstraße 36
  • Mühlenstraße 5

Otto Mayer was married to a christian wife. That´s why he was allowed to live with his wife.

Jenny Jacobs could stay in her flat in the Bahnhofstrasse because she was very old and of ill health. Her housekeeper Henriette Rosenbaum could stay with her.
